"TAKE FIVE BLUES" | ENGLISH NATIONAL BALLET
PRODUCTION DESIGN
We designed the production for Take Five Blues, a jazz-inspired dance piece choreographed by Stina Quagebeur
and directed by Shaun James Grant. The performance blends contemporary jazz with classical music, creating a dream-like atmosphere that pushes the boundaries of traditional ballet.
The modern set design was crafted to enhance the dancers’ energy, allowing the playful spirit of the piece to shine.
Amidst the challenges of Covid, we were commissioned to bring this (then) unique initiative to life,
enabling audiences to safely experience ballet and contemporary dance productions from home.
Working under tight budget and safety constraints, we collaborated closely with the director and the English National Ballet’s internal creative and stage management teams to develop and realise the production.
From initial vision to final execution, we oversaw all aspects of the art department, ensuring the concept came to life on screen. Filmed at the English National Ballet's East London headquarters, the set design was tailored to complement the dynamic choreography while maintaining a visually engaging and immersive experience for remote audiences.
